While our systems are designed for minimal maintenance, some is recommended.

We recommend that you have us inspect your system every 5 years so that you are certain your solar system is operating at peak performance. This is recommended for photovoltaic systems, solar hot water systems and solar thermal preheating systems.

For commercial grade solar maintenance and service, please call us at 1-800-478-SOLAR.

Recommended maintenance you can do:

Solar thermal hot water system and photovoltaic (PV) hot water systems – Twice a year hook up a garden hose to the drain valve at the bottom of the solar storage tank. Run the other end of the hose outside to a spot that can readily absorb water. Open the water valve and let the water run for 15 seconds. This is to flush out any sediment that may have accumulated at the bottom of the tank.

See operating instruction for a solar hot water system PDF

Solar pool heaters- One of the unique features of our solar pool heating systems is that it is maintenance free. We recommend that you periodically make sure the system is leak free. If there is leaking from the solar panels or piping on the roof, though extremely rare, the solar system needs to be turned off.

Powering down your solar hot water system- The following circumstances are reasons to power down your solar water system. If you need instructions on how to power down your particular system, call us or contact us.

Going on vacation- for a thermal solar hot water system if you are going out of town for more than 3 days we recommend you power down your system. For a photovoltaic (PV) system we recommend you power down your system if you will be gone for more than 2 days. If you do not, the system can overheat.

Freezing temperatures- If you know that temperatures will be in the 30’s or lower overnight, we recommend you drain and shut down your system. This may not apply to all systems. Please call or contact us for information on your specific type.

Hurricanes- All our solar systems are designed to withstand many years of Florida weather, including hurricanes. If you suspect any weather damage occurred contact us for an inspection.

We will be happy to help you with any issue with your system, even if we did not design and install it.
